ROM–BRAIN

I use a software solution which partially solves the problem of allowing BBS users to download files from CD–ROMs. It’s a door called ROM–Brain. It keeps a list of all files on all CD–ROMs in your system. If a particular CD happens to be in the drive when the user runs the door, it lets her/him download files from that CD. Otherwise, it allows the user to request files. The sysop should check once a day or thereabouts for outstanding requests (all managed by ROM–Brain), and swap CD–ROMs as instructed until the required files have been transferred to hard disk. The next time the user logs on, the files are there ready for download.

IMHO the software is more than a little slow, but very very useful.
