image: brocante

Although I’m still photographing brocantes / Flohmäert / Flohmärkte / jumble sales, I’m taking far fewer images. Either something catches my eye, or the vendor catches my ear.

The proportion of my brocante photos where the sellers just happen to be pretty young women has gone up, ever so slightly! Such is life….

I suspect, knowing myself, that my experimentation on the subject is coming to an end. Ok, so in photography as art terms, this series is most certainly not experimentation, but in personal skills terms, it most certainly is. I’ve not really taken portraits before. This series is as about as original as a cup of tea, but as someone who has never made a cup of tea, that makes it quite special. I’m lying, of course, I’m English, I was taught how to make tea at school, between all those interminable lessons on humour.

To be honest, my portraiture is imperfect, and needs a lot of work. For example, many people have feet.

So what’s next? I’ve ordered a pinhole camera, and playing with that, and in particular its innate slow exposure, should be rather interesting. But I don’t feel as though that’ll be a long play, unlike the brocante series. So, as of now, I don’t know.
