big town blues (ii)
veer horizon
colouring the converse air
a massive sewn masterpiece
a tapestry of night
you can’t take thought away
not the moon setting
the sun
through dark form
released rising
the city burns
the foreground
a house a park
whole
one window
lit by sodium
that’s all
the dark detail between
you perceive trees
wild old wood
edge of the eye movement
tension
disaster grasps
the wood awaits the flame
but are you reading this
into the picture’s black
or inventing
it’s the frame
old master wood reused
formally decorated
and burning
the corners are burning
burning from the fire in the city
burning from the memories
yours
you’re the one burning the sewn
you’re the one burning the frame
look away
don’t let your history flaunt
it burns
but you want that
don’t you
