The Great North Road
This book, Peter F. Hamilton’s Great North Road, this bloody thing wouldn’t let me go for the last five days. A good listen, despite the annoying fact that the audio is divided into two separate purchases (unlike the book). They are both full length, so it’s not so bad.
It’s two novels interwoven, a police procedural and a monster hunted hunt, in science fiction space. It’s well told, with characters you care for under severe stress. I found the ending something of a let down; a Dear Leader as superhero patron is naïvely distasteful—but it worked.
Although the recording was well read it suffered from annoying editorial glitches where a few seconds of narration was missing.
If you enjoy hard sci–fi, it’s worth the purchase.
