it was an unsurprising twist
the lemon cap
except there was no lemon
let alone a cap
it was paper
thick sugar paper
in a twirl
of passive colours
pastel
not passive
no passive
a twirl
aggressive
in it’s passivity
like anger
kept inside
until one day
the sherbet
sherbet?
ok
the sherbet
explodes
like a small
shake
of the talcum powder
bottle
do they still make
talcum powder
i’ve not seen it
in decades
which would require
i suppose
an unsurprising twist
for me
but a bit of a shock
to someone
in their twenties
should they know
to twist
the talcum powder tube
and shake
which wouldn’t smell
at all
of lemon
but of
mother’s
old carpet
after
it’s been
cleaned
or did she use
the wrong stuff
i always
wanted to mow a carpet
but i’m a guy
that’s a guy thing
or so my mother told me
when she said
don’t be silly
one doesn’t mow a carpet
one gets a old goat
and he
replaces it
and you give him
a twirl of lemon twist
candy
to eat
i don’t blame him
for the anger
and i’m not sure how to react
that he kept it
passive
i think
i’ve have walked
a long walk
to a decent pub
had a slow pint
or two
no more
then walked away
forever
and i’d have written
this poem
except of course
i didn’t
that’s why
i had to clean
the carpet
and used
talcum powder
in error
fortunately
the goat
dealt with
the lot
see
all
unsurprising
even the colours
are fake
