1973 :: (i)

i don’t know why i was
sleepwalking the long village street
a bright fullmoon open night
cold and cloudless skies

[chorus]
and a distance away i heard
a chorus   a chorus joysinging
it wasn’t a simple song
they sang a hairdresser harmony

lonely hiking streetlamps
lighting the under trees
the empty moonlit street
walking my stretching walk

[chorus]

at the end i crossed the street
walked the farmer’s track
to the riverbank   the fabulous riverbank
the fabulous river fields

and there i saw strong in sound
the cows   the cows were singing
it wasn’t a simple song
they sang a hairdresser harmony

[repeat]
