angst cycle (iii)
[Ƥ] (i)

like a cliché paddle–ship
steaming up a cliché mississippi
slowly
against the current
the insanity is still in sight
but it’s upstream now
and there’s a bend
it’ll bend round

but
for a long time to come
those smokestacks will still be visible
pumping out their black delight
and the river will carry the wind downstream
and the wind will carry the smoke downstream
and the smoke will carry the insanity downstream
and i’ll breathe the smoke
and the smoke will carry the the insanity
and i’ll still hurt
a horrible hurt
no longer killing
but infecting
lungs
joints
movement will be hard

it is simple
i need a find
i need a night
all nights
accompanied

for me
unfortunately
there’s more chance
the wind
will throw
half a dozen
five–leaf–clovers
into my pocket

the best of luck
will be bloody
worthless
