like a grand arch
an entrance to an opera house
incredible marble detail
nineteenth century of course
you can imagine the victorian characters
interpretations of classical myth
painted on the columns and walls
foreground to the clouds these gods

and the house itself
will be the classic arch inside
rich velvet curtains
a small but complex stage
space for the orchestra pit
red velvet seating
daily performances
badly attended

the soprano screeches
she’s lost her nuance with age
the leading man led too long ago
and the quiet introspection
is ruined by traffic and sea swell

i see you sitting disappointed
the misinterpretation
the lack of operatic light
this piece should be a great resolution
it’s faded to inconsequence
like the third revolution
the pub has better appeal
