I guess you’re exploring the various alternatives not having found one, as yet, that gives you the richest technique for expression. Many successful composers don’t find their ideal style until well after they’ve started writing pieces for commission, long after they’ve finished college. John Adams, Cornelius Cardew, Avro Part, the modern John Taverner, are some examples I can think of off–hand. Indeed, some composers, like David Bedford, never seem to settle down at all. Just keep exploring!
